About Me:

My name is Ivan and I grew up playing soccer in Montevideo, Uruguay and love the sport more each day. When I was 11, I started playing traditional South American street soccer, training regularly and playing for my school’s futsal team. After four years of training and competing in the Youth A division futsal league, my coach encouraged me to try out for an outdoor soccer team. At age 15, my efforts were rewarded and I became part of Racing F.C. Youth Academy, one of the Uruguayan first division academy teams. After a year in the academy, an opportunity came up allowing me to play in a higher age group at a new club called Villa Teresa. At this time I was 17 years old and playing on the U-19 team, and I had the chance to play against full international players including Sebastian Coates, from Liverpool F.C., and Nicolas Lodeiro, from S.C. Corinthians in Brazil. At age 18, I moved to Canada and continued to coach, train and play with local teams in the Niagara region. My future goals include developing similar programs to those I grew up with in Uruguay and being dominant in the growth of soccer in Canada.

Coaching Philosophy:

Being a successful player takes hard work and dedication to the sport, but even more so it takes heart. Although learning the fundamentals and disciplined practice are central to achieving goals, I believe that teaching to play with passion for the game is key. My love of soccer is evident in coaching strategies and translates into a motivational and fun training experience.
